Introductions over Coffee #8

3 minutes

Welcome back to Introductions over Coffee, where I provide some guidance and insights for new bloggers and maybe as a refresher for us all. I also introduce a new blogger to the community. Please make them feel welcome (as I know you will).

For any new bloggers who want to raise their profile, please follow the guidance in my posts and do not spam my comments section.

Introducing : Abhi Sharma from A Townare

I have been debating quite a bit about whether I should feature new bloggers who only respond to the WP Prompts without creating their own material. Today’s new blogger fits into that category. There are a couple of reasons for doing this.

The prompts are there to be embraced and can help new bloggers find their feet, and build confidence. Also I’m not alone in responding to prompts that catch my attention.

Every prompt attracts hundreds of responses. If you’ve ever perused them you’ll know how much the quality and depth of responses can vary. With that in mind, I believe we can still discover some excellent bloggers finding their feet and using the prompts to help them.

I hope you’ll find Abhi’s posts as enjoyable as I did. As usual, I’m providing links to their blog and a couple of posts which caught my attention.

Today is a special day because effectively I’m showcasing 2 bloggers, although this one is well established and admired by many. Hugh from Hugh’s Views and News.

Hugh regularly publishes very helpful information about the technical and practical aspects of blogging, and does so with very clear instructions of what to do. One example of this is a recent post about recognising and dealing with spammers and scanners. Everyone will benefit from having a read at Hugh’s post. I’m sure you’ll find it as informative and helpful as I do.

It’s important to me that this series really reflects the needs of the community, and new bloggers, so please let me know what would help you.

What I’m looking for in new bloggers I feature

I review the new bloggers I come across to decide who to highlight in this post on a weekly basis, and some have been asking what I’m looking for. I would say the following are my criteria:

  • a blogger who interacts with their readers and responds to comments
  • Are they posting regularly – if someone posts weekly, that’s fine, but I’d probably observe for a few weeks to see how they’re getting on
  • Do they produce quality work – if its text, is it full of spelling/grammar mistakes
  • is there sufficient information to encourage conversation through the comments section
  • If someone regularly spams, they will not be featured. I accept that people can make mistakes at the outset, but they should learn and adapt what they do

I accept that this process is subjective, based on my opinions. Equally if you spot an interesting new blogger, send me a message through the Contact Me part of my site with their details.

      • It’s been a lovely day sitting on my bed, looking out at the trees. I’ve not seen any squirrels today.
My leg is ok. Still bleeding a bit, but it does seem to be easing. Just finding ways to manage things so I stay put longer- insulated travel mugs filled with coffee … so they keep me going 😁
Fortunately classes don’t start til.next week so I can rest my leg and still work

Next week you will wishing for this time with your feet up.
…. and you need must mind that step 😉🤗

      • Lol. Definitely
Hubby is already worrying that classroom time next week will upset my leg

  1. Introductions over coffee is a nice endeavor. You must keep it going. It will definitely encourage the new bloggers to keep contributing meaningfully.

  2. Thanks so much for the mention in this post, although, for some reason, I did not get the pingback notification to my post about spam and spammers, Brenda. The one to my ‘about’ page did not work because that’s the home page of my blog, and pingbacks notifications don’t work when they are linked to the home page of a blog. But thanks ever so much anyway. I really appreciate it.

    • I wonder why the pingback to your post didn’t work. Probably all these updates WP are doing has broken something

      • Other pingbacks were working, so I’m not sure, Brenda. Only the HP Engineers at WordPress would know the answer. It could be several reasons.

  3. One thing that I have appreciated about blogging is the way the members of the blogging community support and encourage one another. Thanks, Brenda, for your encouragement of new bloggers. 🙂 <3

  4. Great idea Brenda, your activities over the blog are a great service to this community. It’s making the writers/poets write, and thus the bloggers blog 😀👏

  5. You’re providing a wonderful service to new bloggers, Brenda. I’ve read so many things about blogging being on the way out, but obviously it is not. I appreciate your community service.

  6. You are so kind to feature new bloggers in your blogs an act that few of them is doing these days and your suggestions are really helpful. I admire your efforts.❤️❤️
