We all have a strong connection to our past, our history – its what gives us our identity. But what would happen if we were cut off from the past, removed from that life? If you were given the opportunity to return, would you?
That’s the situation facing Frank. We find him standing in front of the portal which has opened a path back home to Earth. He’s been stuck on this planet with its purple twilight for 6 years and until now only dreamed of going back home, he had accepted he was stuck here, permanently cut off. Now he can go home, but Frank is hesitating, he is in is conflict; he has a dilemma. The pull to go home is strong, but Frank now has two homes, since he met and married Violet on this planet, this is also his home, with Violet and baby Frank.
Frank has to chose his path – return to the past and his old life, or stay with Violet and move forward, making his future here.
The past is a different place and Frank needs to move forward rather than backwards. His new life is here, he turns away from the portal and heads back to the town and his family.

Brenda, a perfect short story for that image! Frank made the correct decision I believe. I hesitate to think that trying to return to the past will be an advantage in most cases, especially after 6 years. He is a different person now…

I think Frank made the right choice. I don’t think I would want to relive my past. It wasn’t bad, but I like to believe I’m a forward thinker.

I wonder about Frank’s past and what it was that made him decide to stay. It must be bad because he could have taken Violet and baby Frank with him?
Sometimes, it’s good to take a step back to get on the right path again. I’ve found myself in that position a few times.
